A Universal Project Born from Clay

About Terralfar

About Terralfar

What is Terralfar?

Terralfar was founded in 2018 in Mérida, Spain, as a business dedicated to handcrafted ceramics, with knowledge sharing as its central focus. It inherits the feelings and wisdom of a family tradition while expanding them into new territories and technologies. We currently have our base in a very small and old village in Spain called Solana de Cabañas.

Our Vision

At Terralfar, we uphold the highest standards of honesty and responsibility toward our environment and ecosystem. We strive to be recognized for both the quality and warmth of our work within the fields of ceramic design and scientific outreach.

Our Mission

Born from tradition, Terralfar preserves the knowledge of generations, nourishes itself with universal culture, and is committed to research and design. It is open to all audiences, offering solutions while sharing values and knowledge — with clay as its language.

Who we are

Terralfar is led by Julián Ortega Durán, a potter, industrial design engineer, and political scientist who combines his craft with the study of Chemistry and collaborations with local and international businesses and associations (such as AlgyLab and FabLab Mérida).

However, Terralfar also works occasionally with people from his close circle — from designers to specialists in other fields — depending on the project’s needs. We are currently working to expand our team and bring some of them on board more permanently, not just for individual projects.
