Description

Unique piece made by hand on a potter's wheel by Julián Ortega Durán in Mérida in 2020. It is a small leather-colored bowl —or "cuenquino", as Julián likes to say— inspired by the values of austerity, simplicity and minimalism typical ofwabi-sabi , combining them with the inevitable Hispanic tradition of a craftsman in love with her.
The material that composes it comes from a pampered selection of regional and Iberian clay mixed and recycled by hand by the potter in his Emeritense workshop. The enamel that waterproofs it, caresses it and covers it, with its color so inspired by nature, changing according to the light, has been designed and produced in Manises. The forming process has been carried out on the old lathe inherited from his grandfather Rafael Ortega Porras —who was his first teacher— and carried out with special attention to the curves and the lip. At the base you can see the author's signature, as well as the year in Roman numerals, a special tribute to his grandfather and his hometown. The piece was fired in a very special fire kiln, created by hand by Julián according to the technique learned in Ireland from the English and Scottish potters Adrian Wistreich andJulian Smith .

Additional features

It is also the first bowl put up for sale by the artisan in the Terralfar virtual store, so there is a lot of enthusiasm and hope placed on this piece. I hope those sensations are transmitted to whoever acquires it. And to help make this happen, upon discovering it in its packaging, whoever enjoys it will find a sonnet written expressly to accompany this beloved cuenquino.
Along with the piece there is also a detailed description of the details that can be observed when contemplating it, so that whoever wishes to have it with them can enjoy it in all its magnitude, explained by the craftsman.
The packaging has been designed and produced by hand by Julián. In its design, respect for the environment has prevailed since it can pleasantly surprise the lucky person who develops it.
And in addition to all the aforementioned, this bowl is used to enjoy breakfast or to fill it with any delicious food on any good occasion. Because for Julián it is important that an object have a life and a utility, beyond the merely contemplative. Enjoy it as much as the potter did creating it and making it available to you.
